Essential Guidelines for BN-ES-J3: Designing and Detailing Foundations for Reciprocating and Rotating Machines

Designing foundations for machines that move back and forth or spin around requires paying close attention to details. This guide is here to help engineers and designers with key information. It's split into three parts, Reciprocating Machines , Rotating Machines, and one for general information.

Reciprocating Machines

1.1 Machine Weight and Center of Gravity:

  • Provide detailed information on the machine and auxiliary equipment weights, including exact center of gravity locations.

1.2 Operating Speed:

  • Specify the number of rotations per minute and the operating speed range.

1.3 Electro Motor Short Circuit Moment:

  • Include relevant data on the short circuit moment of the electro motor, if applicable.

1.4 Force and Moment Diagram:

  • Present a comprehensive diagram illustrating various forces and moments, including their magnitudes and points of application.

1.5 Free Forces and Moments Curves:

  • Include curves depicting free forces and moments against crank angle degrees for a more dynamic understanding.

1.6 Vendor’s Foundation Requirements:

  • Highlight the vendor's specific requirements related to the foundation.

Rotating Machines

2.1 Machine Weight and Center of Gravity:

  • Provide details on the weights of the machine, rotor, and auxiliary equipment, along with their respective center of gravity locations.

2.2 Operating Speed Range:

  • Specify the range of operating speeds for better clarity.

2.3 Unbalanced Forces:

  • Identify possible unbalanced forces and their points of application.

2.4 Electro Motor Short Circuit Moment or Turbine Torque:

  • Include relevant data on the short circuit moment of the electro motor or torque of the turbine, as applicable.

2.5 Vendor’s Foundation Requirements:

  • Highlight the vendor's specific requirements related to the foundation.

General Considerations

3.1 Anchorbolts Details:

  • Provide information on the location, diameter, type, length, and projection of all anchor bolts for various equipment.

3.2 Grout Layers Thickness:

  • Specify the thickness of grout layers for a stable foundation.

3.3 Baseplate Elevations:

  • Include elevations of all undersides of baseplates concerning the center line of the compressor.

This guide equips professionals with the necessary insights to ensure robust and well-designed foundations for reciprocating and rotating machines. Stay informed and deliver excellence in your engineering endeavors.
